Refacing vs. Refinishing – Renew Cabinets

Refacing vs. Refinishing

Refacing and refinishing are two different processes that can both be used to update your kitchen cabinets. At RENEW, we provide both services.

Refacing involves replacing the doors and drawer fronts of your cabinets while keeping the existing cabinet boxes. Refinishing involves removing the existing cabinet doors and drawer faces, sanding or stripping off the old finish, and applying a new coating to the doors, drawer faces, and cabinets.

Refacing can be a good option if you like the layout of your kitchen and your cabinets are in good condition but you want to change the look of your cabinets. Refinishing can be a good option if you want to keep your existing cabinets but give them a fresh look. Per request, custom cabinetry and cabinet adjustments can be made during these projects at the client’s request.

Here are some benefits of refacing and refinishing your kitchen cabinets:

Refacing pros:

  • Less expensive than a full remodel
  • Can be completed more quickly than a full remodel
  • Can give your kitchen a new look without changing the layout, although we do make slight adjustments and add custom cabinetry to portions of our projects if client requests.

Refinishing pros:

  • Less expensive than refacing
  • Can give your existing cabinets a fresh look.
  • Many items such as crown molding, new hardware, soft-close hinges can be added to boost the look of your design.
